VOWEL SPELLING IN STANDARD WRITTEN ENGLISH (SWE)

There are 18 distinct vowel sounds in Standard
Written English (SWE). There are also some
combinations. Sadly there are at least 200
different ways of writing them in SWE. These
spellings have little logic. The sounds are varied
by adjacent vowels or consonants, by their
positions in words, or just by random
nonsense. Any way of spelling properly needs
18 unique ways of writing vowels, unaltered by
adjacent letters or position. This could be done
with 13 new vowel letters, but this is difficult. It
can be done by decorating letters with an array
of accents, like a deformed hedgehog, but these
are difficult to find and write and remember. A
decent spelling system is not just for experts
with degrees in phonetics, but for the general
public, some proportion of whom are dyslexic;
and for learners of English. 'Lojikl Inglish' (LI)
gives us these 18 vowels and some
combinations in a simple way, using only the
standard key board and no accents. Here is a
comparison of SWE vowels and LI vowels.
