LOGICAL ENGLISH SPELLING SYSTEMS

There are 100's of attempts at logical English
spellings. Some use most of the symbols on the
keyboard and still have to trawl through tables of
special fonts. Some are of the hedgehog variety,
where many vowels, and even some of the
consonants, are decorated with accents you
can't even find, never mind write or type. Some
use heavy or light type, or italics to modify
sounds. All of these are very clever, but not much
use except for very clever phoneticists.
The best of the systems dissect the spoken
tongue. They find the 18 vowel sounds used in
spoken English, and they find 18 unique and
unchanging ways of writing these. Preferably
they use only the standard lower case key board.
These vowel sounds are not changed by adjacent
letters, or by their positions within words. The
systems also find the 20 plain consonants, and 7
aspirated consonants, and make sure the letters
they use have consistent and unique sounds
where ever they come within the word.
The best of these systems minimise the changes
to Standard Written English (SWE), so that any
one can read and write with minimum practice.
A good system should also permit different
accents or dialects to be written, enriching the
language. This is not an 'Academie Francaise'
trying to lay down standards and to take the
language back to Moliere.
Dyslexics have no memory of the written word.
They have to look at it as if for the first time, and
assemble the sound from the clues from the
letters. But there are so many exceptions that
their life is made hell. Often they can write a
word using logic, 'sosijiz' (sausages) for
example, right and wrong at the same time.
Armed with Lojikl Inglish (LI), if they know what
the sound is, they can write it. It does not
matter much if it is not 'right'. Right is when
they can write it and some one else can read it.
Learners of English are also meeting words
for the first time. They too will have a logical
routine for reading and writing them.
You could even learn Regional Accents using LI.
The best system is LOJIKL INGLISH.
